Choosing the colors and styles will be dependent on what type of tiles you wish to use. Ceramic, glass, terra cotta, and porcelain are the most popular choices. They also come in styles of natural stone for anyone who wants to design an outdoor fireplace. Visit your home improvement store and examine each one. Choose the type that will work with the rest of the décor.
It is not always necessary to use the tiles around the entire surround. You can also use them as accent pieces and place them along the edges of the hearth. Draw out the design you want to use and try to pick something that is going to be easier on your budget.
