How To Remodel A Fireplace

Many of us would love to have a fireplace in our home and some of us are actually granted that wish. Unfortunately not all of us are given a beautifully designed fireplace that we can be proud of. Instead we are given a much older model that might not match the contemporary or modern design of our home.

Luckily there are ways that you can remodel it. With the right tools you can change the look of the whole room in such a dramatic way. It will make a huge difference that everyone will immediately notice.

This can be a big job and you must decide ahead of time if this is something that you can handle. If you are not comfortable in your abilities than it would be wise to hire a contractor. However, if you decide to do it yourself you will save a great deal of money.

Design

First you need to pick a design that will match your home. Try to base the new fireplace design off of the architectural style of the home and the theme that you have already created in the room. If you need any help than look at design magazines to see what they have used. The biggest part of the design will be the materials that are used. Most people will choose brick, stone, wood, or tile facings.

Materials

One of the easiest and cheapest way to remodel it is to use a prefabricated fireplace cover. These are easy for anyone to install. Most are glued to the face of the fireplace and they come in a variety of sizes and materials. This is an easy way to transform the look of it without having to actually build anything.

The hardest part will be choosing what materials to use for the hearth. You can tear down the existing one that you have and build a whole new one. You can also build over the one you have using tiles or stone.
