Gas Fireplace Designs

When we think of a fireplace design to use for our home the traditional wood burning fireplace with the long chimney is the first thing that pops into our mind. While these are always a great option for our homes they are no longer the only option. Other fireplace designs are emerging and making their mark in various home.

The gas fireplace is one such design that many people are considering more then the wood burning kind because they are ventless. This means that they do not require the use of a chimney, vent, or air ducts in order to burn. This makes them less expensive to install into the home and give you the option to put it anywhere you want in the home. They use propane fuel or natural gas to burn along with the air in the room.

The best thing about this fireplace design is that it is able to provide warmth, comfort, and ambience to any room it is in. Whit is no wonder that this is one of the first things that people look for when buying a home. When designing a gas fireplace there are a few things that you need to consider.

Fuel Source

The first is to know just how accessible the gas line in your home is to make installing the fireplace easier. Many homes have a natural gas line already that will carry the fuel to the furnace stove, or the hot water heater. Yet, there are still other homes that use only electricity as the main source of power for the various appliances.

When this is the case you can install a gas line or simply use one that will burn using propane gas logs. In order to install a gas line to your home you will need to use a professional who will require building codes. The main difference between natural gas and propane is that natural gas will burn clean into the air and is able to simulate the look and feel of the traditional fireplace.

Fireplace Style

The next thing you need to consider is the type of style you wish to use for your gas fireplace. There are hundreds if not thousands of various designs that you are able to choose from which range from classic to modern. It is best to choose something that you are able to afford and that will improve the look of the room.

The style that you choose will also be determined upon the size of the fireplace and the mantel that surrounds it. You will need to measure the space that you want to put the fireplace. Now find a fireplace that is slightly smaller so you have room to install the mantel that will work best with it.
