Fireplace Surround Designs

Although a fireplace surround design is not needed it can help to accentuate the look of the fireplace that you have and to make it more appealing and less boring. There are countless styles and materials that you are able to use making it a long and difficult process to choose just one.

When coming up with a unique design for the surround, you must first ask yourself what type of fireplace you will have. Will it be a wood burning fireplace that you will use often during the cold months or will it be an electric or gas fireplace that is used mainly for ambiance. The type of ventilation system that it uses is important because it will help to determine how large or small it should be. When deciding on the size you also have to consider the amount of clearance the surround will have all around it.

Materials And Style

This is where all of the fun begins – but also all of the indecision. Trying to determine what material you want to use is largely dependent on what you are able to afford and how you want the whole fireplace to look like in the end. The options are endless – but in the end you are the only one who can make the choice.

Wood

Wood is the most popular choice because it is affordable, easy to work with, and can be used for any type of home that you live in. if you use the dark wood you can create a rustic feel to the home and combine it with a stone or brick fireplace. It is possible to paint them a different color to give it a more unique look. Just remember that is you plan on doing this you purchase the right type of paint that will adhere to the wood.

Stone

Stone is more expensive then wood – but no less charming. This is a very durable material and comes in a variety of designs and styles that make it unique. You can choose the color and texture that it comes in and match it up with stone fireplaces. Although the cost to produce these fireplace surround designs is expensive you will be able to save money in the long run because they are easy to maintain and last longer then any other material.

Tile

Not many people actually think to use tile for their fireplace surround. This is an ideal choice for smaller fireplace that are built directly into the wall. You pick out the tile color or design that would look best in your home and then glue it directly to the wall to surround your fireplace. With tiles you can create a more exotic look in your home or keep with the contemporary theme of most homes. These are easy to install on your own and the most affordable.
